On August 30, we commemorate the 175th birth anniversary of Marcelo H. Del Pilar, recognized as the Father of Philippine Journalism and an enduring inspiration for press freedom.
Led by the Association of Philippine Journalists – Samahang Plaridel Foundation Inc. (APJSPFI), a wreath-laying ceremony was held at his monument in Ermita, Manila, joined by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, Rica Pauline Villegas, a descendant of Del Pilar, and members of Samahang Plaridel.
The youth also paid tribute through the play “Plaridel, Liwanag ka sa Dilim” performed by Tanghalang Banyuhay Inc. and Teatro Binhi of Dalandanan National High School.
On the same day, the nation also observed National Press Freedom Day, continuing Del Pilar’s legacy and advocacy for a free and independent press.
