A monument for Marcelo H. del Pilar will be erected at the Remedios Circle in Manila to commemorate his 159th birth anniversary on August 30, 2009.
Invited speakers at the simple ceremony, starting at 7:30 am, are Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, National Historical Institute chair Ambeth Ocampo and a direct descendant of Del Pilar.
Neal H. Cruz, chairman of the Association of Philippine Journalists (Samahang Plaridel) and Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist, will lead the officers and members of the association during the celebration.
On Aug. 29, the association of journalists will start a tree-planting project along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City, starting from the Quezon Memorial Circle up to the corner of Litex Road before the La Mesa Dam Eco Park.
APJ is an association of veteran journalists, editors, publishers and communicators whose goal is to promote freedom of expression and pursuit of truth espoused by Marcelo H. del Pilar, regarded as the father of Philippine journalism.
